WASHINGTON - Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Education and the Workforce Committee Vice Chair Mary Miller (R-IL) made the following statement in response to the Department of Education’s proposed rule that will limit athletic opportunities for women and girls by allowing males identifying as women to compete in school sports:
“At the hands of the Biden administration, Americans are witnessing a major shift in the country, where woke, far Left politics are advancing inequality and unfairness. This proposed rule takes on a totally perverse interpretation of Title IX that completely ignores the biological differences between boys and girls and men and women.
“The people who stand to lose the most from this troubling measure are women and girls.
“This proposed rule runs counter to the goal of Title IX - to provide equal opportunity for women. As mothers this is incredibly disturbing to witness. Now more than ever, Republicans must step up and pass common-sense legislation like the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 to restore the safety, privacy, and opportunities of women and girls in sports."
