Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement condemning the Texas District Court’s decision to suspend the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decades-old approval of mifepristone:

“Another disaster, fueled by Republican extremism, was just handed down by a right-wing activist judge under the cover of darkness, and now, millions are being thrown into crisis. Prescription drugs are only made available to the public after undergoing significant review from doctors and scientists—not lawyers and politicians. Political motivations cannot change the fact that mifepristone has been a safe, effective medication for over twenty years. Clearly, this ruling has no basis in law, it’s just the next step in Republicans’ war on women. Democrats won’t let this stand and will fight like hell for women’s rights.”
