Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after Republicans finally went public on their backroom schemes to hold the U.S. economy hostage:

“Today exposes another farce from the chaotic, extremist Republican Party. No new ideas, only a hatred of ours. Their long-delayed, irresponsible scheme won’t even follow regular order before it could make disastrous cuts, kill thousands of jobs, and risk the full faith and credit of the United States. Republicans are preparing to add billions to the deficit while creating crisis after crisis: higher drug prices for seniors, restricting food assistance for those in need, and cratering the security of countless pensions.

“This proposal is not serious, and yet again, shows that if it isn’t a tax cut for the wealthy, Republicans can’t govern. Show us the votes."
