The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on June 21. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, June 21 - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), a senior member and former chair of the HELP Committee, today released the following statement announcing the HELP Committee will hold a hearing in the Fall on the disastrous Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade:

“The fallout from the Dobbs decision has been nothing short of catastrophic: In just one year, 22 million women and counting have had their right to make decisions about their own bodies ripped away from them. Make no mistake: This was the result of a calculated, decades-long effort by Republicans to fill our courts with extreme, anti-abortion judges - and as a result, women have lost a constitutional right and are being forced to stay pregnant against their will, even when their lives are in danger.

“This Fall, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee will be holding a hearing to examine how Republicans’ decades-long mission to overturn Roe v. Wade caused a full-fledged and worsening health crisis that is threatening women’s lives, burdening our health care system, and inflicting trauma and tremendous harm on families and providers throughout our entire country."
