US Department of Labor certifies Molson Coors' Monte Vista Barley Elevator in Colorado as Voluntary Protections Program 'Star' site

Beer maker’s barley elevator maintains safety distinction since 2015

Participant: Molson Coors

Address: Molson Coors Beverage Company, Monte Vista Barley Elevator

Monte Vista, Colorado

Description: The beverage container manufacturer maintains excellent housekeeping practices to promote workplace safety. The Monte Vista site was recognized for maintaining an exemplary safety and health culture supported by excellent levels of management commitment and employee engagement, including a focus on computerized process controls. The site also has a comprehensive and effective dust collection system, belt alignment sensors and temperature sensing matrices in the stored grain piles and bins.

Background: OSHA announced the Star designation for workplace safety and health excellence following an evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts. A Star site designation is the highest level of recognition the agency's Voluntary Protection Program offers. The site was initially approved for the VPP in 2015. Molson Coors now has seven grain elevators participating in the OSHA program, including sites in Burley, Idaho; Huntley, Montana; Worland, Wyoming; and in Longmont, and Golden, Colorado.

To participate, employers must apply to OSHA for consideration, and undergo a rigorous on-site evaluation by a team of safety and health professionals. Learn more about the VPP.

Duration: Initially approved in December 2015, Molson Coors' Monte Vista Barley Elevator location has maintained VPP certification for more than eight years.

"Grain Elevators have serious hazards and can be dangerous places to work. Molson Coors is showing its commitment to curbing workplace injuries and fatalities by implementing outstanding safety measures at its Monte Vista barley elevator," said OSHA Regional Administrator Jennifer Rous in Denver. "OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program recognizes this organization’s commitment to safety at all levels."
