The following press release was published by the House Committee on Education and Labor on Aug. 24. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement in response to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report revealing Job Corps’ glaring shortfalls in upholding safety and security protocols at its facilities, failing to prevent drugs from getting on campus and into the hands of students, and failing to hire qualified intervention specialists:

“Job Corps’ putrid stench of ineptitude and mismanagement continues to waft out of the Department of Labor, and today’s GAO report confirms this fact with blinding clarity.

“Alongside glaring failures in staffing recruitment and retention efforts, serious vulnerabilities in security protocols on its campuses have opened the floodgates to illegal drugs being pipelined in by students. These failures underscore a solitary point that I have been banging the drum on for years: Job Corps is badly failing its mission to set young Americans on a pathway towards lifelong success."
